WV Wedding Photographer | Andie + Dylan at the Maylon House
Andie and Dylan were married at the Maylon House in Milton -- about 40 minutes outside of Charleston - on one of the hottest days in June. Fortunately, Andie is one of those brides who was just really excited to get married, no matter the external circumstances -- I was looking forward to her wedding just because I knew how pumped SHE was for it and that everything was going to be fine.
Their wedding is also a great example about why I encourage people to include “getting ready” as part of the their day. I’m going to blog specifically about getting ready at the end of the summer, but you’ll see in the beginning of the gallery that we were able to get a lot of really sweet shots with Andie and her mom and Andie and her bridesmaids.
Andie and Dylan chose not to do a first look with each other. But we did do a first look with Andie and her dad -- also something I highly encourage couples to consider. First looks are a way to capture immediate, authentic reactions and aren’t just consigned to the bride and groom.
I have photos from my own wedding of the first time my grandmother saw me, as well as my mom, who wasn’t around for most of my getting ready because she was on dog duty. I actually even have first-look shots with my dogs and their reactions were priceless!
In Andie’s case, she chose to have just her mom with her for putting on the dress, did a first look with her bridesmaids and a first look with her dad. She and Dylan saw each other for the first time when she was walking down the aisle.
I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it over and over -- there’s no “right” way to do your wedding day. But do consider being intentional about moments and carving out pockets to be one-on-one with the people you love.
