Charleston, WV Courthouse Elopement on Valentine's Day | West Virginia Wedding Photographer
On Wednesday…like two days ago…I was tagged in a local small business group that a couple was eloping on Valentine’s Day (the next day) and their wedding photographer had just gone into labor. They were just looking for an hour of coverage — ceremony and some couple’s portraits and were desperately hoping someone was available. I responded, and later that hour Dana gave me a call.
Although Dana and Jared had been together for seven years, they had decided to get married the week before. Apparently, the conversation had gone something like this:
Dana: “So when are we going to get married?”
Jared: “How about next week?”
The beauty of elopements is that they can be as spontaneous or planned as you like. I have two planned in Virginia for the spring — one at the end of March and one in June where I’ll capture getting ready photos, ceremony, couple’s photos and some kind of mini-two person celebration (champagne, a picnic, ice cream downtown after sunrise in the park).
Or you can be like Dana and Jared.
On their wedding day, I met them at the courthouse for a short a sweet civic ceremony crashed by some work friends who wandered over from a downtown office to see if they “were actually going through with it.” (They did!) And then we went outside for a few couple’s portraits before they walked over to Recovery Sports Bar for drinks and a surprise cake provided by friends.
